Los Gigantes cliff is a volcanic geological wonder located in the western part of the island of Tenerife, in the Canary archipelago, Spain. The site consists of impressive rocky walls that stand up to 600 meters high. I want you to know the place. I have included a spectacular view, a Los Gigantes Webcam.
This extension ranges from the port of Los Gigantes to Punta de Teno, an area of the Teno Rural Park. All of the above is distributed between the municipalities of Santiago del Teide and Buenavista del Norte. It is a good alternative, to spend a vacation away from the world and surrender to the majesty of nature.
Long ago the island of Tenerife was inhabited by the Guanches, a community of aborigines who had their origins in the African Berbers. They had their own mythology rooted in polytheism, that is, the belief in different gods. They believed in a good god and a bad one, called Guayota, the devil.
The Guanches began to call this cliff The Devil’s wall. Since its constitution characterized by dark lavas, its disturbing height in front of the sea and the fact that it is inaccessible to the interior of the island, reminded them of the end of the times. In addition, they had a myth which told that Guayota, the demon. Guayota lived there after being defeated by Achamán, the god of goodness.
The cliffs, due to their tremendous height, represent an unsurpassed geological formation. However, the existence of some ravines such as: El Natero, Juan López, Barranco Seco, among others; favor the appearance of gravel beaches. These are usually visited by small boats that you can enjoy on your next vacation.
The seabed of the site is only 30 meters deep. Consequently, it is rich in plant and animal species that are an attraction for fishermen, tourists and divers. On the other hand, these walls have a dark color and sinuous parts with solidified lava thanks to erosion. Its constitution is so great that it is admired from the town of Masca without problems.
Its climate is praised as it is quite pleasant all year round. Consequently, tourist developments on the coast of Santiago de Teide have been built, for the enjoyment of travelers. Likewise, you can find large hotel chains and the famous Puerto Deportivo de los Gigantes.
You can enjoy other tourist places near the area such as Playa de Arena and Puerto de Santiago, if you decide to visit the cliffs. The tourist enclave has obtained the Blue Flag award, for all the treasures it has to offer its visitors.
Enriching your visit to this breathtaking room is very simple, since you have several alternatives. The best way to contemplate the entire landscape is through a boat trip. You can delight your eyes with all the possible panoramic views of these stone walls. If you get to visualize them in detail, you may get to capture subtle reminiscences of curious human faces and figures.
Also, if you are an animal lover, you may have the opportunity to see the pilot whale or pilot whale, of which there are about 250 swimming in the sea. In the same way, bottlenose or bottlenose dolphins inhabit the area and every 5 minutes they usually go out to get some air or play, so witnessing the kindness of these animals is possible.
You must take into account that their sightings have been supervised by the Government of the Canary Islands since 1995. In addition, we are facing one of the few places where guinchos or ospreys are observed; popular in the skies as they are birds that nest on cliffs.
When it comes to water sports, the environment is conducive to daring diving and snorkelling, due to its transparent waters and its great marine biodiversity. Since the seabed is not very deep, both beginners and experts venture into this blue world full of sea turtles, sponges, parrotfish, coral reefs, algae and caves.
In this same vein, do not hesitate to contact the companies focused on diving that work in the area.
