Fuerteventura is the oldest of all the Canaries. Fuerteventura is relatively young in geological terms, but is the oldest of all the Canary islands, formed 70 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity. Fuerteventura’s modern landscape has changed little and the landscape is decidedly volcanic in origin.

Luckily for the tourists there are no active Volcanoes on Fuerteventura today! just 60 miles off the coast of Morocco The geographical position of Fuerteventura means that for many tens of thousands of years sand from the Sahara has been deposited on Fuerteventura’s shores. Consequently, Fuerteventura boasts around 125 miles of the best beaches in the Canary isles if not the world.
